Transitional fun for Holywell primary children before September

Dozens of Holywell Primary pupils from 11 schools had the opportunity to take part in a host of exciting activities designed to ease their transition into secondary school in September.

The year 6 annual outdoor activity days, held this year at the Bryntysilio Outdoor Education Center in Llangollen, are organized by Ysgol Treffynnon. They have enjoyed great success over the years in providing students with a valuable opportunity to get to know and mingle with Year 7 students at Ysgol Treffynnon, as well as their new tutors, teaching staff and teacher major.

The students enjoyed activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, hiking, fossil hunting, archery and some wellness activities. Under the guidance of their tutors, groups of students participated in a variety of “team building” challenges to help them work together to develop their skills and confidence.

Jack Kimpton, a 6th grade student at Ysgol Bro Carmel, said: “I made a lot of new friends in all the primary schools, it was amazing! I can’t wait to start high school in September and see them all again.

“We know from previous years that Transition Week makes a hugely positive difference for students transitioning from 6th to 7th grade. It incorporates their sense of belonging, security and relaxation during their first weeks here at Ysgol Treffynnon, allowing one to begin their learning.

“After another fantastic transition event, we look forward to welcoming them all in September.”
