Razer’s smart desktop prototype is straight out of science fiction

Razer has made a name for itself as one of the most trusted sources of gaming accessories. In addition to their consistency, however, they are also known to make some pretty experimental products over the years, from laptops to triples. LED air purification mask screen. For a brand that has such a grip on the peripheral market, I have to respect the fact that it is always looking to innovate, even though some of its companies may miss the mark. Now they have presented us with another ambitious idea: a smart office.

The Consumer Electronics Show is where Razer showcases its prototypes, and luckily for us, CES 2022 is taking place this week from January 5-7. This time, the brand presented its latest project, a prototype called Project Sophia. So far all we’ve got is a 3D render, along with a short video clip, but it’s definitely enough to pique my interest. Razer calls this a “gaming desktop concept,” whatever that means, and it honestly sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

It basically looks like a sleek desk with a big screen attached, but where it gets really interesting is on the desk itself – it’s modular, which means parts can be changed. Razer says there are thirteen different pieces that can be swapped out and removed, and that they include everything from secondary displays and audio mixing units to pen tablets.

The prototype would need an Intel processor and an Nvidia GPU to function, which are magnetically attached to the bottom of the desk. There are other add-ons as well, such as cameras and microphones, wireless chargers, and even a cup warmer. At the sound of it, you would never have to leave your desk. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Razer’s Smart Desktop seems like an expensive toy that I personally wouldn’t be able to justify the price for, but I imagine it would be multitasking’s dream and could cut down on the number of different devices one would need to buy, since they are all integrated.
