Learning Fair returns for its 27th year in Jackson after COVID hiatus

JACKSON, MI – The annual summer learning fair will offer free activities for children in its 27th year after the hiatus from last year’s COVID-19 pandemic.

The Learning Fair will run from noon to 7 p.m. on July 8 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 9 at Northwest Elementary School, 3757 Lansing Ave. The event is free and offers over 80 hands-on activities for children of all ages.

A free lunch is served from noon to 3 p.m. on both days. Concessions are also available.

Angela Klobuchar has seen how stressful this school year has been for the children, as she is also the event coordinator and teacher at the Northwest Community Schools. She said she was delighted to be able to run the fair again.

“Don’t get me wrong, some (of the students) came together and had a lot of success this year, and some that I previously knew to be successful weren’t and I saw the kind of stress it got on them. caused, “Klobuchar mentioned. “And I’m really excited to be able to have the fair for them, they are having more than ever.”

Klobuchar is excited to have a new activity this year where kids can ride in a Model T car. Other hands-on activities include making a ring from a neighborhood, building a toolbox, and Moreover.

The Learning Fair is made possible by an anonymous donor who came up with the idea for the event 28 years ago and has continued to fund it since then, Klobuchar said.

“They are a wonderful local family who only care about our children and their main goal is to say to the children so often, ‘Don’t do it. You can’t touch this, you can’t do that, ”Klobuchar said. “His point of view is how do you find out what excites you and what you want to do with your life if you don’t touch and try all kinds of things? “
