Democrats double bill after lifting ban on funding for Uyghur genocide

Congressional Democrats last night doubled down on a version of their $ 1.75 trillion spending program after it was revealed they lifted the ban on distributing new research funds to Chinese companies complicit in the genocide Uyghur.

The removal of an amendment that prohibited the bill from funding National Science Foundation programs to Chinese companies listed under the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act was only revealed yesterday, although that it appears to have been deleted before a new version of the bill was introduced on October 28. Suggesting that the exclusion of the previously included provision was not a mistake, Democrats passed an amendment to the legislation last night incorporating further legislative fixes, but without addressing the deleted Uyghur provision.

NR’s requests for comment to the House Science Committee, House Rules Committee and President Nancy Pelosi’s office went unanswered.

As Congress prepared for a rules vote on the welfare spending bill to take place later today, President Biden said in remarks on his legislative platform: “Let’s show the world that democracy American can deliver. “
